What is Matcha?

Some people may not be familiar with matcha. Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder made from finely powdered dried tea leaves. Matcha has a slightly bitter, vegetal taste and vibrant green colour resulting from the leaves’ high chlorophyll levels. Because of their health benefits, it has most recently become popular. Normal green tea is already touted as an antioxidant powerhouse, but matcha tea has even more benefits. The reason is when you make other forms of green tea, you steep the leaves in hot water and then discard them. But when you make matcha tea, you whisk the powder into hot water on milk.

The result of this process actually consumes the entire tea leaf when you drink it. Matcha contains antioxidants that may lower blood pressure, and it reduces the risk of heart disease. Matcha tea even boosts your metabolism. Other than regular green tea, matcha contains more caffeine.
